CAIRO - Iraq’s new president, Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani, hinted in an interview published Sunday that he opposed the idea of ousted dictator Saddam Hussein being sentenced to death. http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/focusoniraq/2005/April/focusoniraq_April31.xml&section=focusoniraq

Hopefully they can avoid politicizing the issue of pardons and penalties. In some ways, I think life imprisonment may be a worse fate for saddam, as he would be forced to witness the evolution of freedom in Iraq.

As to the insurgents being pardoned, I think I can understand how this sentiment would exist in a domestic sense. Put the U.S. in a similar situation, with the Revolutionary War, and I'm sure we generally think the insurgents (U.S. citizens, in this case) are/were pretty much not viewed as criminals.

Obviously, the level and form of fighting are VASTLY different in Iraq -- the extremes are much more extreme -- and this sways me a bit on full exoneration for actions taken by insurgents. Additionally, I would like to see a differentiation between insurgents who are IRAQI, versus insurgents who came in from other countries, as I get the sense that there are a bunch of violence-mongering pukes who saw a fight and joined the mayhem.

Of course, if they would like to bring saddam to my front door, I have a .40 caliber bullet with his name on it.

President, Jalal Talabani, is there any way to tell this JOKER that its wrong to pardon the DEVEL Saddam Hussein and the 10K insurgents our solders fought and give there lives for?!?!?!?
The following is a small clip from the article. It's a must read in my opinion.

Talabani, a former rebel Kurd leader who was sworn in as Iraq’s first president on Thursday, proposed an amnesty for insurgents to ”give them a chance” to integrate into the post-Saddam Hussein Iraq.

“I am among the lawyers who signed an international petition against the death penalty in the world and it would be problem for me if Iraqi courts issued death sentences,” he told the pan-Arab Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

I agree Dorrel. Sounds like a bunch of crap.
Its their country, but my opinion Saddam should die.

On a positive note...They just caught Saddams nephew (or just reported it), he was helping fund the terrorists just like his dad who was caught some time ago.

IRAQI authorities have said they have arrested a nephew of toppled Iraqi president Saddam Hussein suspected of playing a major part in financing the insurgency.

Don't you Bush-haters ever get tired? Newsflash: he's a historic president who is changing the world for the better. Look at democracy spreading across the mideast.

He doesnt believe in setting 25 million people free from a brutal murdering dictator, but he sure will free load on the dinar profits created by the same white house he doesnt support and on the blood of our fallen servicemen.

What a pathetic, parasitic POS.

Never heard of a 40 caliber bullet. BTW...Saddam was Reagan's man in Iraq. He put him in and supplied him. The rest is history. The Shah of Iran was also supported by the US and was just as brutal to those who opposed him.
