Proportion of nationals working at Kuwaiti oil Co. nears 80 percent -- Work & labour 10/25/2007 1:30:00 PM executive (with photos) KUWAIT, Oct 25 (KUNA) -- Proportion of nationals working in Kuwait Oil Company has jumped 79 percent and is expected to hike further, an executive of the company announced on Thursday.
Ayed Al-Hajeri, the director of the training and development employment group of the company, said in remarks to KUNA that the company was seeking to increase further the rate of the nationals serving in the company in a way that would not affect the work.
However, the KOC cannot hike the proportion by 100 percent because this will "mean isolation from the world and lack of skilled foreigners to serve in some important positions." He added that the operations sector was being manned by the nationals by 100 percent.
According to a strategy mapped out by the company last year, up to 2,500 new employees should be hired, Al-Hajeri said, indicating the number would swell to 3,500 considering the compensation-payment procedures for up to 1,000 potential retirees. Majority of the new-comers will be Kuwaitis, he affirmed.
The employment plan has been worked out on the basis of projected ventures and the general strategy of hiking the output of the crude to four million barrels per day by 2020, Al-Hajeri said in the remarks to the national news agency.
