I think the first paragraph shows they accomplished what they hoped for:

The absence of any statement on the dollar peg at the Gulf summit Dec. 3-4 has temporarily dampened currency speculation. As Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) trade is mostly with non-dollar countries, and overseas capital allocation is gradually diversified, calls for revaluation or wholesale abandonment of the peg have become louder.
