Iraq's once world-famous date industry, bludgeoned by war and lack of funds, may have suffered on the global market, but stallholders in Baghdad are stocking up once more with the season's first crop.

"The first dates, the Sayer, have arrived at the central Al-Rashid market from Basra" in the south, said wholesaler Abdel Amir Abu Alla, 47, sitting in his little office decorated with pictures of Shiite Islam's Imam Ali.

I live out here and I am surrounded by "dates", however, given the reputation of the media, it took me a couple seconds as well. The first thing that came to my mind was an internet website for guys to meet girls....LMAO!!!!! :lmao:

The date crop up here in Scania is @ 2- 3 weeks away from harvest. I picked up a small bundle of fresh dates for 1000 dinars in Al Hilla this morning. ( I wish a "real" date would cost this much!) After eating @ 20 of em' i'm sure i'll pay the price later---- :( Anyways, it's amazing that a person could survive off of these and camel's milk in the desert. Now, if I had some Montrachet yeast and some sugar I could make something potent from these things.

It was SUPPOSED to have a doubble meaning duhhh... Made it comical and informative.

I think my heading was fine the way it was, if you people want to run around here waving your wands at members I think you should ask them first, instead of raping peoples threads.

Clarification and percision ammendments should only be used in "EXTREEM EMERGENCIES" i.e. if the thread is about to go into the wrong hole ect...
