Hope this is not a repost, anyway here ya goThis article was rather encouraging. Instead of being wishy-washy, the Iraqi delegates laid down an ultimatum, threatening an assault on the Imam Ali shrine by Iraqi troops if the "vile" occupiers didn't leave. For once, the vile ones aren't the Americans. And the Iraqi delegates were "negotiating" from a position of strength instead of allowing the losers to dictate terms.
The only drawback is that there was no mention of disbanding the militia.

I believe that was a stipulation, his militia had to disarm, disburse, and he had to go through the due political process for change.

I believe that was a stipulation, his militia had to disarm, disburse, and he had to go through the due political process for change.I hope that's true. The story mentions that it was a demand, but the story only says that Sadr agreed to leave the shrine. Going to go check out some other stories now. Thanks. :)

Hopefully, this move signifies a change in Iraqi attitude. Previously, they'd bent over backwards to try to make "peace" with the bad guys instead of letting us destroy them. Fallujah is the major obstacle left, if Sadr truly is dealt with. It's been mentioned quite a bit that virtually all the car bombs that are doing most of the killing are coming out of Fallujah.
If the attitude of the Iraqis has changed, hopefully they'll let us go into Fallujah and deal with the problem once and for all. Last March/April when we were surrounding Fallujah, bombings had virtually stopped. Once we clean out that town, I'll bet stability will improve dramatically.

What I find interesting is that some of the millitant groups HATE the foreign terroist groups like al queda. In fact do any of y'all remember when one millitant group (not sadrs) but one of the many threatened to KILL al zequawi and his followers if they didn't leave Iraq? The groups issued a video tape to the one of the pan arabian news agencies like last month I think.

Al-Sadr has said one thing and done another before the good thing here is that the Iraqi's threatened him with a non-American resolve, but once he leaves the mosque who is to say that he doesnt start over anew somewhere else not to be negative i just don't trust the guy :( but if he does'nt that is a big step forward toward our goal of getting Iraq on its feet so we can make some money.
Tony , I agree ... We must show strength, Everyone seems to fear what the arab world will think or do. The US should not worry about that. Those terrorist only respect might and power they see weakness in any other way.
If we made an example of Sadre, you would truly see progress in Iraq
