The Iraqi Industry and Minerals Ministry announced that work has begun on construction of 10 new cement plants, adding that this is part of an investment project that aims at increasing cement production capacity in the country through the involvement of the private sector. Read

This is a good thing, they are going to need huge amounts of building materials.

I saw on the news last night about our country and China are going to be running low on a now shortage of cement. There were several contract companies unable to complete jobs due to supply of cement cut in half. They talked about all the reconstruction from Katrina and other hurricanes where going to be overwhelming and that supple was at a critical stage.

As it stands Iraq could very well be a leading exporter of cement.
