Businessman sees major opportunity in Iraq - 7/8/2005
Birmingham area businessman Dave Nash is aware of Iraq’s problems, but he sees much progress and potential.
That’s why Nash, who heads an economic planning and financial advisory firm, plans a trip to Iraq later this month.
“I think it’s very important to Iraq to begin to have the private sector get going, to have the infrastructure functional, and I’m just going over to see what I can do to help,” said the 62-year-old Shelby County resident.
Nash has been to Iraq before. Working for the U.S. Defense Department, he oversaw billions of dollars in construction and rebuilding projects in Iraq from July 2003 until last September.
After completing that assignment, the retired Navy admiral started working as an executive with BE&K and formed a limited liability corporation, Dave Nash and Associates, with some of the colleagues with whom he worked in Iraq. Nash will be heading to Iraq on behalf of the corporation, and the timing of the trip could be postponed for a month if he is not able to arrange all the meetings he hopes to have with government and business officials.
