This country is in complete chaos until they kill this Al-Sadr guy. Allawi is letting things rapidly slip out of control. Things have gotten worse security wise since the turnover. We are in for a long haul with the dinar unless someone takes the bull by the horns and starts wiping out these epidemic problems. Thought Allawi was the guy but he is just to worried about pissing off some clerics. You'll never make these guys happy. Never seen a country where oil is there way out of poverty and deprivation and they keep blowing up the one thing they desperatly need to move to the markets!

Saddam had the same problem with the Shia in Najaf in 1991. The Shia were holed up in the mosque. Saddam stormed the mosque with elite republican guard forces and killed everyone in the mosque. He had no problem killing 5,000-10,000 in one day. The US does not have the will for that kind of fight. Instead will we continue to play patty cake with the opposition.

Excuse me?? we are talking about human beings here... no one can just go storming in and kill everyone... imagine yourself or your family inside that mosque.. we need a political solution to this..not some insane mayhem...

And if we went in and leveled the damn place, we'd be the bad buys for destroying it. We're playing pattycake, as you put it, because the entire middle east is crying because we might damage it.
My opinion, as i've stated before, give them a chance to vacate and then go in guns blazing.
If they cared about the mosque so much, they wouldnt be hiding behind it. But they know the pressure we are under to not do damage to do it. I'm surprised they didnt find saddam there.
Besides, we're not Saddam....

Popeye, considering you're on this board I'd say that's a very misinformed post. You're listening to mass media and their blatant bias and lust for blood and the death of Americans and Iraqis. The media and lefty socialist want Iraq to fail, they want soldiers killed. I can give you 20 examples of the good going on in Iraq versus the murdering scum. The murderers are not all Iraqis, and not all shia. If all the shia were rebelling virtually the whole country would be in rebellion. Iraqis aren't blowing up the oil lines, scum bags that don't want the country to succeed so they can take it over are blowing up the pipelines. As far as 'storming the mosque' goes, the U.S. has the will and the power. Can you imagine the press and backlash for doing this? A sniper needs to blow off al sadr's head and the problem will be solved. His followers can then go back home and start looking for a job in the numerous rebuilding projects that are under way. Most of the murdering scum are unemployed shia and sunni that were connected to the sadamn regime. Anyone within 20 miles of Baghdad had to be loyal to sadamn to even be there, that goes for shia or sunni.

I read all the good things going on and that is why I invested in the dinar, but it just seems every time a cleric burps, everybody stops and goes oh , innocent people start dying, things are blown up, and thugs are allowed to take over mosques and use them as a sniper staging ground. the government has to set a stern example mosque or no mosque.

Before the invasion-Saddam emptied out the prisons. I have heard that many involved in these actions are criminals. I know they are snatching hostages and selling them to various criminal groups. Many of the militia fighters could very well be former inmates. If it were the mainstream Shiites, it would be very, very obvious. Just a thought.

Yes, he may have not won any nobel peace prizes but Saddam knew his neighborhood well. Islam, when left alone tends to become violent. Look at Saudi Arabia for example. No churches or temples left since 663 AD. In fact, Saudi Arabia still bans Jews from working or visiting the kingdom. Saddam didnt believe in the mullahs crap, he was our kind of Muslim. Saddam could have a glass of brandy in one hand, and a cute blond in the other:)
The US is clearly too soft when dealing with these radicals.
