View Full Version : Politics in avatars and signatures

Hey everyone,

A couple of you are using avatars/signatures that are political. Please remember that your signature/avatar are visible across the board. This means that politics/religion should not be part of the message portrayed in them. Additionally please do not use blatantly sexual avatars as there are kids surfing the Internet these days.

I have added this to the rules :)

Thanks,

Dan

Non-compliant. If I got an IM from danpeg to remove my avatar of Kerry...an upside down flag is one of the worst of the offensive political avatars. So much so, in many parts of the US, you do that, you'll never walk again.

Kerry's not really my man. I've said before both candidates are very lackluster and that it sadly is a choice between the lesser of two evils for many Americans.

I just don't appreciate dishonest, distorted, & unfounded allegations by anyone, whatever party they are from, but here it is now the SBVT. I took the same stance & have said the same thing about Michael Moore many times.

But anyway, clever subject change.

I bet everyone here loves how you've been going around telling people whose avatar's are non-compliant or not ever since Dan asked you to remove yours. A bit childish, no?

Do you really think he is singleing you out? I had to remove my political avatar before anyone, and I didn't start a thread whining about it. He will address everyone's political avatar when he sees it. He is not American, so sometimes he won't recognize a subtle political statement. Cut the man some slack.

I have to disagree with you like always it seems. An upside down flag means distress. We use it in the military when the post has been taken over. To give warning. It is a statement of position. Just cuz you had to get rid of Kerry doesn't mean you have to hate. I don't think you should have gotten rid of Kerry. It was funny and your statement. So what. But don't you think your being childish if you're acting like "Mom, if Bobby gets to go outside why can't I?" Palease. And TWOTONE, stop asking peoples opinions on your Flag. To me it is like your asking for a fight with someone. Say it once and get over with, but stop asking what people think. I know you want to share your opinion on why you do this. If that is the case, just open up a dang thread and call it:

TWOTONES REASON FOR UPSIDE DOWN FLAG

First post to read...
Do you find this offensive? Do think this is controversal? What is your opinion.

Then everyone like MJI can have there hissy fit and then everyone can move on. Geez lets get over it ok?

I'm not going on a hissy fit. This is an IM from danpeg I got the other day:

Hey MJI,

We would like to keep politics outside of the non-political forums. Could you please change your avatar to comply with this policy?

Thanks a lot!

Dan
-------------------

Now, danpeg assured me he sent messages to offending parties, but I have yet to see the other people change their's. I was told to change mine "ASAP." Why should I get singled out. What's fair is fair. If not, I'll soon put back up my old avatar.

Blake

I changed mine after he sent me a PM asking me to do so.

But we understand your feelings and need to repeatedly tell some people their avatars are noncompliant. It's so much more reasonable than simply PMing Dan to ask him about the discrepancy you feel exists. I'm sure he's singling you out. I heard you ran over his dog. Here you go....

I do not appreciate my PRIVATE messges being publicly posted!

MJI please stop being so defensive. This forum is NOT POLITICAL and your avatar WAS POLITICAL so if you do not agree with this rule please reconsider posting here.

Once again, I don't care about either Bush or Kerry. I am not American. I have indeed PMed the other non-complying members but they don't seem to be online as often as you are - give this a couple of days.

Enough is enough.

Thanks for the Kleenex...I'll use that to wipe my screen clean from the crap you post. I did send a few PMs to danpeg about others on here, but he never returned my messages and I still see the others with their avatars out there. His silence on the matter is deafening.

Child? Hardly. I pm'd dan about this upside down flag. He knows it. He never replied back to me on a few other's avatars as well on why they are still out there. He did reply right quick to this thread though. Whatever.

Kellyb my dear...I'm just trying to find out where there is fairness in the application of the rule. How could some be asked to take their avatars off ASAP (Blake, myself) yet others continue to flaunt theirs? Two-Tone and iraqimillionaire are on everyday are they not? I guess they are the ones that go disrespecting danpeg's new rule. They are the ones acting like children.

Besides...what was the first post of this thread again that started the ruckus?

"Up-side-down Flag?

I know i'm and walking the line on this one... what do you think?

TT"

--------------
Amazing...I point out its non-compliance according to the rule and it is many of YOU all that have become child-like in your response.

Case in point...the sarcastic Blake reply: "Say hello to the new administrator. Yay."

So I make a jab back and he can't take it, but somehow, I am the only one singled out as child-like. Please. There is a saying, if you have nothing nice to say, best not to say anything at all. Blake's reply added no value to the original post/discussion and neither did every single one after Blake's (that includes mine and yours, and everyone else's, too) since he started everyone down the "child-like" slope to begin with. No one, except me, answered Two-tone's question correctly according to the new rule.

Besides, when does presentation of a fact (my reply about the new rule and its application and what danpeg said) become whining? Is an upside down flag not a political statement? Can an upside down flag not get you beat up in certain areas of the country? I'd really like to know if that is not the case. If that is not the case, then I'll redact that my orignal response was indeed "child-like" as you have put it.

Now, go back an re-read the posts, including yours. I didn't know investorsiraq.com was an American base under duress. Brilliant! :p

Anyways, I'll play the bigger man and apologize if you think this was whining on my part. I just don't see how it is. However, let's all address something...application of the rule set forth by danpeg as an administrator should apply to all (yet it has not...as we can see...again, am I not correct? I think we know the answer.) I removed my avatar. Blake removed his. What about you, Two-Tone? Care to follow the new rule?
