Dear Mods,
I was wondering if you could add a new rule. I'm very concerned about this
thread: http://www.investorsiraq.com/showthread.php?t=8270
To me it presents a security risk to all of our soldiers over in Iraq. This is
a new way to deal with the enemy over there and if they so happen to
find out, they could have a counter-attack waiting for unsuspecting troops.
Any post that has info on our troops should not be posted or in a thread.
For example...troop movements, numbers, new tactics, and etc etc.
Leave the enemy in the dark, so to speak.
A couple of them think this post is entertaining. They forget war is not
a video game. People really do die and never come back.
You just can't have someone come over and revive you.
Its best they don't know about this info unless we want them too.
I would rather not get more into this because it is upsetting
and I know you guys are busy. Sorry if this has been suggested already.
I hope you can do the right thing about this situation. Thank you
for your time. I appreciate it alot.

Im going to play the devil here but... I believe the thread that was deleted for "security reasons" was Michael Yon's Blog. He is a free lance jounlist currently in iraq. His blog can be visted at http://michaelyon.blogspot.com/ . Dont get me wrong i do not want to give away any of our tactics but im pretty sure Michael Yon must be limited to what he can write. He follows troops on their missions, as a freelance writer im sure the army does not allow him to say whatever he wants. I do not beleive the thread was a security problem. Im sure he has to follow a strict guide line, and would not be allowed to write of anything that would put our troops in harms way.

Just because that guy can't think ahead of the consequences and repercussions of what he posts, does not mean other people should follow in his footsteps. In other words, don't add more fuel to the fire. This might help:

Two wrongs don't make it right.
After all he is a journalist aka a civilian right? I believe he is posting in ignorance. He knows nothing of future warfare.
Also it gives our future enemies...(iran),(china), or whoever
info on what to expect if we have to fight them.
They would be able to counter us each time because the info is "posted"
on the internet for "all" to see. Doesn't that make sense?

The enemy is actively searching the unclassified (computer) networks for information, especially sensitive photos, in order to obtain targeting data, weapons system vulnerabilities, and (tactics, techniques and procedures) for use against the coalition," he wrote.

If I'm not mistaken that's exactly what Able Danger was doing. Searching unclassified info on the internet. Stuff that was available to the general public and triangulating data. Seemed to work pretty darn well for them something to think about.
