Regarding Iraqi bank accounts, I would prefer to have an Iraqi passport just in case. Since I am married to an Iraqi national I thought I would have no problems getting an Iraqi passport. Wrong. According to the Iraqi embassy in Washington DC, they will not issue passports to any "foreigners" regardless if they are married to an Iraqi. However, the children can get Iraqi passports.

I have no passport from any country. This Iraqi embassy in Washington is sounding more like the Saudis. The Saudis rarely grant citizenship or passports to non arabs/non muslims even if married to a Saudi citizen.

What country do you live in now? Are you a register citizen for that country ???

however, my wife is an Iraqi. I am trying to plan ahead and get an Iraqi passport for me too. It would be safer in dealing with Iraqi institutions if you are an Iraqi passport holder. Hopefully Iraq will open up a consulate office here in Detroit and staff it with locals.

is sooner rather than later for your benefit. Must be very frustrating.

It would be much easier and I believe safer, to have Iraqi citizenship to deal with the banks over in Iraq. Just waving an American passport in Iraq wont do much good regarding business transactions. But the Iraqi embassy here in Washington DC says it wont give me an Iraqi Passport even though I am married to an Iraqi national, go figure. I just dont like the idea of having a bank account in a foreign country and not holding a passport in that country.
