Myth of Consensus Explodes: APS Opens Global Warming Debate

The American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming. The APS is also sponsoring public debate on the validity of global warming science. The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming "incontrovertible."
In a posting (http://www.aps.org/units/fps/newsletters/200807/editor.cfm) to the APS forum, editor Jeffrey Marque explains,"There is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very probably likely to be primarily responsible for global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution."
The APS is opening its debate with the publication of a paper (http://www.aps.org/units/fps/newsletters/200807/monckton.cfm) by Lord Monckton of Brenchley, which concludes that climate sensitivity -- the rate of temperature change a given amount of greenhouse gas will cause -- has been grossly overstated by IPCC modeling. A low sensitivity implies additional atmospheric CO2 will have little effect on global climate.
Larry Gould, Professor of Physics at the University of Hartford and Chairman of the New England Section of the APS, called Monckton's paper an "expose of the IPCC that details numerous exaggerations and "extensive errors"
In an email to DailyTech, Monckton says, "I was dismayed to discover that the IPCC's 2001 and 2007 reports did not devote chapters to the central 'climate sensitivity' question, and did not explain in proper, systematic detail the methods by which they evaluated it. When I began to investigate, it seemed that the IPCC was deliberately concealing and obscuring its method."
According to Monckton, there is substantial support for his results, "in the peer-reviewed literature, most articles on climate sensitivity conclude, as I have done, that climate sensitivity must be harmlessly low."
Monckton, who was the science advisor to Britain's Thatcher administration, says natural variability is the cause of most of the Earth's recent warming. "In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years ... Mars, Jupiter, Neptune’s largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth."

Good news, one cold year out of 10 and we've reversed ourselves. Sun, moon, CO2, whatever.. it doesnt matter; the ice sheets of Greenland and the poles are melting in record time. Stop with the rhetoric and science-babble, look at the visual proof.
I'm certainly not buying any beachfront post RV, might rent some for a short-term lease though.

No matter. I live in Colorado which has perfect weather year round and is relatively unaffected by changing weather/ocean patterns besides great powder at the ski areas, especially in the southwest CO areas. Ill let Floridians, Californians, mid-westerners and east-coasters do the worrying. Regardless, this article is a great toilet read. Check it out.

Doesn't read for crap (pun intended) on the blackberry, and screen is too far from the toilet.:drunk: (teasing obviously).
Weather patterns have always been cyclical as long records have been kept. Remember, in 1972, some of these people told us we would be frozen by 2000 or so?
Conserving is wise. Alarming is not. Going at an alarming rate based on scientific "consensus" is foolish.
Let's face it GW, you think we conservatives are panicking about Obama's financial ruin prospects.
We're merely cautious of someone so profoundly unqualified to be president, as you are just as profoundly cautious about the preservation of the environment.
And I (as well as most true conservatives I hope) am concerned about the environment as well. No one I know wants to rape and pillage the very lands we live in.
No one can afford to throw the caution to the wind. But trying to completely revamp our economy overnight to build a green economy based on fear is crazy. :handshake:?

It's tough for a geologist who has friends ranging from brainwashed BP-Amoco oil-field trash to tree hugging-glaciologists to have to explain myself to a bunch of right wing media-whores with knowledge of nothing but the blog down the street what is going on with the world. But then again, Im laughing my a- off. Ill just go ahead and let the results speak for themselves even if they take 10 or 20 years to show the signs. I have nothing to say about this subject other than.. stay on high ground and keep the mosquitos off.

Man isnt responsible for global warming.. God is, so get your facts straight.
And it sounds more like an H2S leak off one of your wells. We had one in Big Piney, Wyoming about 10 years ago and it wiped out about 600 elk which were wintering around it. Now hit the alarm and get to your station.

And did you see when he was interviewed by Katie that she kept referring to him as "Vice President" Gore. Totally wrong address, and she made it apparent she was doing it when she said it.
Again the "MEDIA" is helping to social engineer our thinking.
When we first started way back when in the 60's with the ecology movement it was laughed at. Now it is a multi-million dollar buisiness, especially for those companies and 'cities' which now require us to re-cycle our trash !
Its all dollars and cents - the sad part is the cents are not going into my purse and the dollars are going to someone else.
