BAGHDAD, July 21 (VOI) – Abdelaziz al-Hakim, the leader of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC), discussed at his office in Baghdad with a visiting delegation representing the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) the country's political and security developments.


"Sayyed Hakim, the leader of the Shiite Unified Iraqi Coalition (UIC) parliamentary bloc, had received on Sunday evening a PUK delegation to discuss current political activities and deliberations to settle outstanding issues," according to an SIIC statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).
The UIC is the largest parliamentary bloc with 83 out of a total 275 seats.
"The two sides also discussed the historical SIIC-PUK relations and means to strengthen them to serve the interests of the Iraqi people.
The PUK is led by incumbent Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.
The Kurdish delegation "expressed content for meeting Sayyed Hakim, a figure that is popular and highly respected by the Kurdish people," the statement noted.
The meeting was attended by members of the two sides politburos.
