BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Iraqi leaders have agreed on a draft constitution to be submitted to parliament by Monday's deadline except for two issues that the legislative body must decide, two Shiite officials said.

It initially was delayed for two hours, but Kurdish lawmaker Mahmoud Othman said the parliament would not convene before 10 p.m. (2 p.m. EDT.)

Agreement Reached
Monday, August 15, 2005

BAGHDAD, Iraq — All eyes were on Iraq Monday as lawmakers there were expected to arrive soon to vote on a new constitution soon-to-be submitted to the country's parliament.

Iraqi leaders have agreed on all elements of the draft constitution except for two issues that the legislative body must decide, two Shiite officials said.

Nasar al-Rubaie, a member of the drafting committee, said the document would be handed over to the 275-member National Assembly late Monday for a decision on the two unresolved issues. He said those issues were women's rights and self-determination, a Kurdish demand for more autonomy and the right to secede someday.

The Sunnis ultimately had no choice but to go along with this constitution. The fact is most of the oil wealth is centered with the North Kurd and Southern Shiite land masses. If they split away from Iraq the Sunnis lose a lot of wealth. But there was also compromise by allowing some issues to be debated in the future. This way you gain momentum for the new governing bodies.

Who is this Pelican guy. The only thing Ive seen Pelican do is throw negative in the way of progress. Any good news comes out and BAM! there he/she is to begin discord. The Iraqi currency that myself and everyone else has purchased has bolstered the Iraqis allowing them the economy they are beginning and will see verey shortly. The currency I bought will be traded just like the smaller currency that might or might not be being handed out. Iraqi dinars are iraqi dinars and when on the world market will be exchanged. I am not worried of this at all. Fairly soon if all goes accordingly I will be retiring very comfortably. :happy64:

Hello All!

Are some of you confused? Looking for something and it's moved? It's me. I'm combining threads that are of the same topic. Doing that has made the thread quite long, so I'm deleting some of the "yippee" posts. I hope you understand. Also, I've moved some threads to the appropriate forum section. I'll do my best to move some posts to the appropriate thread, too. It's becoming a big job, so please make an effort to post in the appropriate thread. I understand it's easy to get off topic and share excitement and what-not. With the possible upcoming activities, we are trying to get organized for easy referencing.

Thank you for understanding and helping us out!

P.S.- With the large amount of members online and all of the posts, we are going to miss things. Feel free to point them out to us! Thanks!

YES, I just got off the phone with one about 3 min's ago. ITS A DONE DEAL.

Hi PD,

Is this the same source that is giving the Monday the 29th date?

Is this going to be the RV date or the constitution done deal date?

Thanks again.

Regen, since we are such "good friends" I will answer that (of course I am being sarcastic).

I have TWO guys that are stating Monday, and yes one is the one who said it was a done deal. What you might not understand is that the words of the constitution have been a "done deal" for quite some time, no one would have/could have predicted the Sunnis not liking the words, thus the amendments (changes) have been going on since then.

Tell you what; since YOUR SOURCES have been "dead on" I will just lay back and read what "they" have to say........oh, and by the way YES they are still saying Monday.

Have you heard anything regards to the amendments? Have any been made ? Is there any progress? Not knowing is hard!I want these people to work out their differences ,not just for the money but for them!

I'm sorry if you thought I was being sarcastic, truly I wasn't.
Your Monday rumor was the next in line so I was trying to figure out what the averages of the sources were thats all.

Thanks again.
