I am guessing that the "Message you entered is too short" rule happened because so many people were posting one word entries. The problem is that it doesn't keep people from doing this. In fact, most just post the fact that what they are posting is too short.
Since it is not deterring anyone from posting short messages, can we please disable this feature?????

Actually, I think this is why Dan is asking us to use the chat more.
So the threads don't become silly conversations of HUGE quote and 'I agree' . Or short quips back and forth that don't really add to the content of the thread. I do it too. :(

I agree that the idle chit chat is not useful and I have tried to stop contributing to the problem. The problem is that everybody still posts their short message, just with the "The message you have entered...." thing at the bottom. So then we all have to read the default message, which just adds more useless words on the threads!

Maybe our gentle readers will consider the substance of their entry before clicking the 'submit reply' button.
In fact, the title of the button might indicate agreement to the rules for those who think about it.
