I'll start with a question:

Am I the only adult here who thinks that an ignore function is completely unneeded?

To me the need for an ignore function speaks of a general attitude which promotes derisive behavior rather than curb it which I imagine is the purpose of the function. I see it as a crutch for people who simply cannot handle anything that goes against the grain of their own world.

Why use it?

Does it rip apart your existience so badly to spend a moment of your life browsing past a post which you do not agree with? What do you do when people like your boss or spouse or family or friends state something you do not agree with; do you covers your ears and start with the Gollum-esque "I'm not listening" ?

It sounds childish and insecure to me to wall one's self away from differing opinions.

What I find ironic is all the posts people miss on these boards because in the hysteria of scrounging through the threads they came across someone who disagreed and rather than just be an adult and move on, they not only decided on the easy way out, but they felt the need to get that last jab in with the obligatory "Ignore is awesome! Buhbye!" post. I mean really, that makes you better than the people you ignored? Another bit of irony is how many more people would have seen this post if I had just made another screen name - why, because instead of dropping me a PM to say they disagreed or heck, even just moving on with the rest of the thread and making a personal note that they disagreed with Teslyn on such and such issue, they jumped top the ignore function.

I'm not suggesting a removal of the function, heaven forbid that I should suggest removing some people's safety blankie, but maybe a moment for people to think about it.

I personally enjoy that there are people here who disagree with me. Its not even about who is right and who is wrong. It's about seeing other motivations and behaviors. And while some of you may despise me for my difference in where I place my faith as far as this whole forum is concerned, I can't say that the feeling is mutual. I might disagree with you, but I still want to hear your reasons why.

I guess the ignore function continues to disappoint me in the general attitude here on a daily basis.

Have a good day folks, whatever you may think.

well, when my kids act up i do take refuge in my garage, LOL......honestly, i tried not using the ignore button, i don't have a problem with opposing views, it's the insults, the language, and flamers that i don't like. So why read them? I added a few more this morning, not because they don't think as I do, but because they were going out of their ways to start childish bickering.

What was that you were saying? I have you on ignore. :D
I agree, read and decide. You would be amazed that you can learn some things, even from the village idiot.

The ignore feature is fine. Some people want to customize their reading of these Forums and why not? By using it extensively people can "weed out" posts that generally add nothing to the conversation. For my tastes I have more time thus can get through "the fluff" without having to use the ignore function. The only time I have used it was for an avator that I found offensive.

I don't care if people want to use it or not. I've never used it and probably never will.

I have a few on ignore, then someone goes behind their post and quotes them, then i end up reading it anyways. I even sometimes go back and take off the ignore to read the post then go back and turn the ignore button back on..

I only have 1 person on ignore. That chick with the freak out screaming person for an avitar.

But, the ignore is a good thing, too bad more people don't use it. There are some people on this board that delight in stirring the pot and then getting their jollies out of acting like a great facilitator of understanding once they get everyone's knickers in a bunch. Some just want to throw gasoline onto any fire they see.

Dinaress, there is a link on the right side of an ignored post where you can just view the post with out turning ignore off and on. It is helpful to provide context without all of the inane garbage.

BTW, I have about 40-45 on ignore. I just don't like people whose only purpose is to rain on someones parade.

I don't use the ignore, I just use selective reading, kind of good at it; learned it from all that selective hearing from being married.... ;)

I'm putting the whole forum on ignore now!

What do you think about that? WHAT?!?! Speak up, I can't hear you! :happy26:

How about being able to see who has you on ignore? Or at least how many?

That might discourage some people from posting if they knew no one was listening.

Heh, heh. Go ahead and ignore me now. :shhh:
