As a land broker I have located parcels of LAND in my neck of the earth for WIND, SOLAR, & GEOTHERMAL. I will be on a buying spree of land very very soon, and I will also be looking for investment partners!!!

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Google Inc. on Wednesday unveiled a $4.4 trillion energy plan to greatly reduce U.S. use of fossil fuels by 2030 by tapping alternative sources, including wind and solar power.

Google has explored a number of alternative-energy initiatives through its nonprofit organization Google.org, including investments in startups developing related technology. As justification for its interest and investments in alternative energy, the Internet giant has cited a need for more efficient ways to power its data centers around the globe.

In an online posting, Jeffery Greenblatt, Google.org's climate and energy-technology manager, wrote that while the cost of Google's plan would be significant, exceeding $4 trillion, it could result in net savings of $1 trillion over its 22-year span. Visit Google's blog. (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/clean-energy-2030.html)
The plan is the result of an analysis by Google, which said its goal is to "stimulate debate." The company said its own related initiatives have included making $5 million in "building efficiency" investments, which it aims to recoup in two and a half years.
In addition, Google last month announced that it would begin partnering with General Electric Co. to lobby Washington lawmakers and promote the use of alternative energy. See related story. Greenblatt wrote that the "Clean Energy 2030" plan would involve heavy investments in transmission capacity for wind and solar power in the "Great Plains and desert Southwest" to help cut 88% of fossil fuel use and 95% of carbon-dioxide emissions by 2030.
In addition, Greenblatt wrote that geothermal energy, or natural energy that can be harnessed beneath the Earth's surface, is the "sleeping giant" of alternative energy. Geothermal-energy systems promise "extremely rapid growth if key technologies can be proven in the next few years," he said.
Through Google.org, Google has invested in geothermal-energy company Potter Drilling, which is developing technology to pierce hard rock and has provided a grant to Southern Methodist University's Geothermal Lab.
Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt is scheduled to speak publicly in San Francisco Wednesday evening about geothermal energy and other related topics. http://i.mktw.net/mw3/News/greendot.gif

I'll sell the powerplant site as a turnkey package to the good old suppliers for healthy sum!

So let me understand this...will our cars now be powered by these giant fans (i.e. will we be attaching sails to our cars)? Will these giant fans also be used to cool down the earth, stopping global warming? Will winters now be colder due to these giant fans blowing all of that wind? What will happen to the Windy City if they build these giant fans there? Will Chicago change its name to The Really, really, really windy city" ?

I am intrigued by this proposal...it seems to really tie all these things together nicely

QUESTION - Wouldn't it be easier to quell speculation on oil and oil derivativs(legalized gambling), than building all this expensive stuff? - JMDO-JAG

good luck sir. now all you have to do is get by the entrench old school energy suppliers.

They are mandated to begin adding and acquiring alternative energy sources. They will be beating on DB's door instead..

Wind Farms, Solar Fields and Geothermal Wells will be created for utility scale projects for power production, by increasing the base load capacity to sell electrical power to the growing cities of the SW USA.

Energy power is a global currency. As consumption grows so will the cost of energy by at 14.5% per year for the next 10 years according to US Dept of Energy.

It's called RENEWABLE energy for a reason. THE POWER SOURCE renews itself!

Once the capital is spent on improvements and machines for power production is BIG MARGINS year after year after year. Most powerplants have a life span of at least 30 years minimum.

Look at your electrical bill and calculate how much you spend on the purchase of 1 Kilowatt hour, that's 1000 watt hours??

Most power plants produce at minimum to be viable have to produce at full capacity 10 Megawatts. Thats 10,000,000 watt hours.

Lets be realistic.....follow the money! One way or the other...one party or the other the push will be for renewable energy. Im not as savvy on this as geowhiz or others are but I will say that I would gladly join in with other investors post RV to pursue this.

Personally I dont see oil going back to much lower prices. Its always been my opinion that once you get people used to paying a certain amount you know you can always fleece them for at least that much. Ask yourself....if you went to the gas station now and found gas for $3.00 a gallon youd be all over it. Once this technology is proven there will be a major push to implement this all over the US. As always those with due diligence and the foresight to plan several moves ahead will prosper the most. Go where the money is going and try to carve out your niche in the process. DB, I know your researching abilities are spot on and stand alone on most cases here in the IIF. If this goes the way your talking about rest assured that when the meeting is called either here or in the Caymans I will be in attendance. I look forward to future investments with all of us that have had the good fortune to be invited to share ideas.
