I'd love to be able to chat with some of the folks here at the IIF, but I have noticed a problem.

If I'm using Linux as my OS, Firefox browser with the latest Java plug-in, the IIF chat applet will shut down all my browser windows (like a kill -9 firefox, or something). Has there been any testing done on other OSes besides Winblows?

The one time I tried at work (Win XP and Firefox) it worked for a little bit...the only time I seem to have the killed browser issue is when trying on Linux.

Sugardave, can you provide the exact error message?

When I hit the chat link, the applet starts to load, then WHAM all my browser windows shut down....like when a process just dies.

Sugardave, sorry. :(

I tried Experts Exchange (I'm a member) and google, and I could not find an answer. I have found some people with similar issues, but no answer.
This link below has some steps, mostly for Windows, but it does reference Linux. It will ask you to delete a file.

The only other suggestion is to uninstall and then reinstall Firefox with the latest updates. Also in the Options of Firefox, do you have Java script enabled?

Anybody out there who is a Unix/Linux expert, please help out our buddy Sugardave.

Works for me with Firefox 1.0.6 on Gentoo w/ sun-jdk-1.5.0.04.

No errors generated in my java console either.

Thanks for the effort! I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be the Java version that I have....tonight I'm going to try and "rev back" to an earlier release and see what happens.

Don't know my exact Java version, but it is 1.5.something. Hmm...did you use the plugin from the ns7 or the ns7-gcc295 directory?

I'm using Fedora Core 3 (I think...might be 4...will verify when I get home).

That's what I figured...with ns7 version, it acted as if the plugin wasn't installed...will have to investigate the plugin option that Kenny was talking about. Thanks for the help! :happy26:
