I suggest a membership fee of $9.95 USD to view this site.

I think if this was implemented we'd see a lot, no ... we'd see a TON of redundant posts and childish behavor end.

Plus, if you want good information, $10 isn't going to break your bank.

Just my 2 cents

I see two problems with having a membership fee:

1) It feeds the conspiracy theories about the site existing only to make money
2) It will be harder for them to ban trouble makers if they have paid a fee

Other than that, I would be for it. Although I think $10 a month is a little steep. Not sure I would pay $120 a year.

Conspiracies are just that.... conspiracies :) If you believe that this site is a conspiracy than you're probably the same kind of person who believes in half the rumors on this site!

And as for #2, its the exact opposite.

It will be easier to ban members if they break the rules. Just like any club, if you break the rules you're out.

Every member has to abide by rules, and they can be the same rules we have now except for a non-refundable payment of $9.95

Lastly, where did I say $10 a month?

I mean $10 INDEFINITELY

Many forex trading sites have a one time membership fee. Its a one time payment and you're in.

I never said anything about a monthly plan.

I actually don't believe either!

My reason for number 2 is that one time a member who was constantly breaking the rules was told that he would be banned if he continued the same behavior. He attempted to pay the subscription fee (I assume because he thought he could then do what he wanted), but Dan would not accept his money.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. A one time fee of $10 sounds fair.

That sounds like one of those bumper stickers you can buy as a prank! It would go great on my last boss's Mercedes!

Hahaha, true stupid people do have money :)

I'm just thinking of a filtering process.

Thats noble that Dan won't accept payments excpet for donations. But... many people who have really good info are going into hiding because of idiots who expect this investment to be calcualted down to the very minute.

Remember, some supporters don't want ribbons.

Conspiracy theories and censorship accusations are the farthest from the truth and quite honestly are slanderous. Of course, you would only know this if you knew Dan.

I have spoken with Dan and all I can say is that he is committed to making this a community that is informational and respectful. He is very upset with the direction of this board and has no desire to make it a profit engine. The board was meant to be a place to exchange ideas about investing in Iraq.

Remember, Dan owns this board. None of us do. This isn't a government site. It is a privately owned and publicly displayed. No one owes ANYONE ANYTHING here. No one has paid ANYTHING for what they get. He could shut it down right now and no one would have a say.

All I can say that things are going to drastically change. It will not be a pay site and it will most definitely be at the cost of "hits" and "Amer sales support", but it will once again return to it's original focus.

I believe the new format (if approved) will benefit all who have a vested interest in this site and all that it could and should provide.

All I can say is that the next time the garbage man passes this way, he will have some heavy lifting to do and will have to make a second trip.

Respectfully,

If you're not a member or have purchased from Amer, you can't post or start threads. This is de-facto a pay site. Also think about how much it actually costs to run this site. $20 for 3 months membership? How many people have signed up for that? Out of 1000's of members I'm guessing a few dozen. That's a lot of money. I ran flushhanoijohn.com during the presidential election, it cost me $30 a month with tons of bandwidth. This site can't cost much more than that. What kind of kickback does dan get from Amer? I'm guessing the membership "dues" as well as the kickbacks from Amer MORE than cover the cost of running this site. My final .02 on the subject. :rolleye03

My feeling is that limiting posting to paid members only would have the effect of reducing valuable input as well as random chatter. Just because one is a paid member does not mean that the quality of posts is higher. In addition, who determines quality? Some rumors are considered valuable by others but are considered lies or distractions by others.

All it would do is reduce the number of people who can post without discriminating between "good" posts and "bad" posts.
