Or you could say it's about to begin. Depends on your perspective.

Probably stick with Bank of Baghdad, Dar Es Salaam Bank, Middle east Investment Bank and Warka for my next purchase. Haven't bought for a while but with all the articles coming out recently, for some strange reason I feel the need to place an order. :wondering:

Good call Copper13. I keep meaning to buy into a construction stock.

I hold some Al Hilal Industries, they manufacture Air condioning units among other things. Might add Al-khazer for Construction Materials to my next order.

Can anyone name a stock on the ISX not worth a punt?

Are there any kind of ISX mutual / sector funds that combine a number of their stocks? Any help / pointers on where to look for this or knowledge of their existence is appreciated.

Excuse my ignorance, but how would one start to buy on the ISX? I only have about $300 to spend. Does anyone know what percentage/fees they charge to set up accts?

Thanks.

Probably need a little more money. If you do it as I did through Warka. You will need to open two accounts. 1 for USD and 1 for IQD. The wire fee from your local bank is probably 25$ the wire fee through Dresdner in Germany is another 20$ +/- and lastly you will need to maintain 150 USD in your Warka USD account. So at this point the start up is about 200 USD (couple of dollars to open each Warka account).

This leave the remaining balance in your respect to be a 100 USD converted to IQD at todays rate to be 117900 IQD to invest in stock.
Warka has a minimum stock purchase requirement of 100,000 shares and a 1% commission on the trade. You don't necessarily want to buy the 'cheapest' stocks out there so you can see you may not have the amount that you would desire to buy a 'few' stocks.

(I am waiting on 17 stock purchases to occur on my behalf tomorrow. It will be my first foray into the ISX)

Hope that helps a little.

You forgot the 300'000 dinar to keep the IQD account open. So that's another $255.

$45 wire xfer fees
$160 USD account minimum
300'000IQD = $255 IQD account minimum

Total = $460 and that's just to hold Warka accounts and leaves nothing extra to invest.

Not sure how much you'd need to invest through Karmel? Although I'll find out soon as I'm considering selling and buying back in my own name. Warka's communication leaves ALOT to be desired.

Thanks BNZI, Actually I did not know that myself. Good to know now. Question on the 300K. Do we receive interest on that or can you by a CD with it?

I appreciate the add on info, :clapping:

You have to leave the 300k in the IQD account so I don't think you can buy a CD with it? If anyone knows otherwise please correct me so I can buy a CD!!

You DO gain interest on any money in the IQD account but I'm not sure on the exact figure. I believe it used to be around 10%.

Also remember it's an extra 15'000 dinar per year for online banking. IMO it's worth paying for it so you can check to see if you've received your interest and dividents. Plus you can withdraw money back to your UK/US bank account using the online banking service.

I am waiting for the online access. That has been the only slow part I have experienced in the process so far. They (Warka) have been real nice people to work with. Open up the accounts real quick. Posted wired funds quickly and posted IQD I fedex'd. I am anxious for the online info and to see how much of my stock request is processed tonight (tomorrow).:coffee::smoke:

Warka is extremely slow in executing orders.I am wondering if anyone experienced the same slow pace activity on their part? Warka never gives me a joy ride in the exection of my orders.

There are 2 companies that sell pepsi cola in Iraq,Baghdad Soft Drink and North Drinkl.Baghdad drink is the largest-about 3 times the size of North, and is most often traded.I believe they have the country divided as to jurisdictions (not positive). Al-Bunnia,owner of Warka Bank owns a lot of Baghdad Soft Drink Stock. You can go to his web site www.al-bunnia.com,and check him out.Quite impressive-kinda like the Rockerfellow of Iraq.Coke (the cola drink) was "kicked out of Iraq years ago due to politics (they were associated with Israel in one of their wars, and incurred some wrath). They are trying to "get back in"by importing thru a neighboring state.

The new Al-Bunnia brochure, http://www.al-bunnia.com/ , does not refer to private banking as the previous brochure did.

I'm trying to get just about all of it. Banks are my number one but then i also have Electronics, Seed, Baghdad Pepsi, One investment company... I just put an order in for two hotels and a pharmaceutical company. Right now, just about everything looks good and it's all ground floor.
