No you don't need a citi account to wire to warka. Warka has a bank account at Citi, so you are just wiring from your bank, to Warka's account at citi. Warka then takes the money from that account and deposits it into your Warka account. You can use any bank to do this but I use WAMU because it has free wire transfers.

I just opened one last Sunday on-line, and had the account #'s confimred on the 16th.

Went today to transfer funds but got confused with the details they needed to do the transaction (it si form England) so we had to abort the mission.

Now trying to find out exactly how to! Anyone able to help?
Below are our account details at Citibank in which you can now direct your wire transfers to fund your accounts at our bank.

    Account Number: 36908969
Account Name: Warka Bank for Investment & Finance
    Bank Name: Citibank NA
    Branch: New York
    Swift Address: CITIUS33
    Fed Wire: 021000089

    Best regards,

    Mr I

    International Affairs

This is the only info I brought with me to Citibank along with my Warka account number. I did not have the address for Warka bank although they asked for it. The person just put Bagdad Iraq in that box. You should probably go to Warka's website and get the address for their main branch before wiring because they will deffinately ask you for it.

Also, there is a box for additionial info for the wire. In that box you will put something like "for further credit to (your name) (your warka account number) at Warka bank.

What number did you call to confirm the info with citibank? Every citibank number I called could not confirm Warkas account number because they said it was a different division of citibank and they could not give me a number to verify it.

    Thank RotaryRevn for that information.

Anyone else do a Citibank wire to Warka? I'm planning on doing one this afternoon and wanted to see how peoples' experiences were.

Just a word of caution on going through Citibank. I had met one other forum member that contacted me to help him with the steps to track his lost wire that he sent through CITIBANK. His money did eventually turn up, just as mine did but the whole thing took me 6 weeks before they found my money. Mr. I advised that when you wire, you should see it in your account within 4 days normally. I am not sure why Warka is having this problem when we wire through Citibank. I am hoping, since Mr. I has delt with this at least twice now, hopefully they have corrected the problem.

I never had a problem when wiring through Dressner bank however dressner charges 50 bucks and Citi only 5. That difference could be costing you about 50k dollars if this thing Rv'd 1 to 1 at a later time . So it may be worth the added effort to transfer through Citi even though it may take longer (If that is still the case).

Do we have anyone out there who has made a sucessfull transaction through Citibank? One that made it right in like within 4-5 days? This info would help greatly.

I made some phone calls about this relationship with Citi Bank and got no where. The folks I talked to even checked internationally and said they have no info about Al-Warka and Citi Bank. I sent an e-mail to inquire as to which Citi Bank in New York Al-Warka is using and have yet to get a response. I will continue to wire through USbank.

Citibank's relationship with warka is exactly the same as Dressner. You would wire from your USbank (you mentioned) to Warka's Citibank account for further credit to your Warka account. The only thing that is different is your using citibank as the pass through bank.

I should have seen this post earlier. The day before new years I sent a wire from my Citibank account to Warka's account at Citibank. I'll spare you all the details, but it took a month to get the whole thing sorted out and the funds to appear in my Warka account. Warka's explanation for the delay:

The delay was due to the fact that we did not receive the related MT 101 swift message from Citibank which is the standard swift message needed to credit a wire transfer to the client's account.

All along Warka kept asking me about swift...but this transfer does not use swift. It is not an international wire...but simply a domestic wire from Citibank (in my case since I am a Citibank customer) to Citibank using the ABA routing number. And as far as the relationship between Citibank and Warka...it's simply that Warka has a bank account at Citibank. There is nothing else that I am aware of. Anyway, it was a lot more painful than I was hoping for...but in the end everything was resolved. Just don't expect it to take a few days. ;)

Yes, I would recommend continuing to use Dressner unless you don't mind emailing Mr. I back and fourth for about a month. If you want the money in your account within 5 days or less, use Dressner.

If you want to save 50 bucks in fee's and don't mind the wait and trouble, use Citibank.

I am shocked that this problem is STILL not fixed. This is the third person to try Citibank, and the third person to have the exact same problem.

Sounds like the problem lies with Citibank, and not Warka. Warka was extremely helpfull with helping me track the lost funds, I just can't believe that this is still happening.

What is the ABA routing number for the account?

I guess the relationship is pretty legitimate. It's just that everyone is worried about their current situation than to bother.

I saw this at the American Embassy of Iraq. Guess it's true

Yes its a great step forward for Iraq but its nothing more than the relationship they have with Dresdner, its just another corresponding bank
