The UN probe comes as Syria is facing escalating pressure on several other fronts. The United States accuses Damascus of aiding the resistance in neighboring Iraq. The Syrian government denies the accusations, insisting that it is doing all it can.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice demanded Syria's co-operation with the UN investigation.

Syrian state-run Tishreen newspaper said Damascus is committed to cooperation with the United Nations but criticized what it described as politically motivated media speculation about the inquiry's outcome

    Lightbulb Interesting

The clock ticks, the vice tightens, will it fall from within or without?

There are a lot of Iraq's old Baath regime living it up in syria, including most of ol' Saddam's family. Oh, and those hundreds of semi-truck convoys that traveled into Syria in the months before our return, those can't all have been household goods, can they?

I've posted here about reports of the semi-trailers full of Dollars, $100 bills in boxes on pallets taken into that country, the likelyhood of finding the WMDs right there, and the seaside resort surrounded by anti aircraft guns and missiles with crews where many of these people live now. And from where they run and fund the "insurgency".

I would rather see Syria heal itself and join the civilized world by turning over the dross from Iraq which they have been hiding these years. In the meantime, the Syrian pound might be worth watching.
