A question for the fact finders...

I know this sounds unheard of but can anyone give a reason why or why not Iraq could re-circulate the currency-bills (lower denominations) that do NOT have Saddam’s face on them?

Just a question of that I am not sure if they can legally or feasibly do this?

I am starting to see very small denominations of the old Iraqi dinar floating around.
I asked one guy (Third Country National) where he got it and he said from an Iraqi shop when He bought a soda. May be the shop owner was getting over on him but IT MADE ME THINK…

Could the CBI restart the circulation of the smaller denominations that don’t have Saddam’s face on it if the need presented itself?

They could do anything they wanted but, unlikely.

Unless you see everone using them I reckon the shop keeper was ditching old notes.
They would also show up on the CBI site if they were legal tender.

WHETHER......the money is useless...the people will try to get one over on others...but the govt can't distribute money that's been done away with...

This has been discussed before. RUMOR had it that there were pallets full of the old Swiss dinar sitting in storage somewhere. Waiting to be recirculated after they RV. I cant remember if it was ever proven to be anything more than a rumor.

It would be intersting to see what happens when those old notes are taken to the bank.

It's possible that the CBI knows the old notes are still out there and being used.

I would guess that the CBI will keep taking them in - then my guess is that they will just destroy them.

I'm pretty sure the grace period to redeem those notes has expired years ago. Weather this changes, or not is anyone's guess. My guess is they will not use those notes. They look very much like the notes they are now using.
Same plates, just added security features. JMO

I haven't heard of this before either. It does pique my interest, though. Could you tell us of the source that this came from? I know that there are quite a few IIF members in Iraq. Seems that they would have caught wind of something like this...but then again, news from over there is always so hush-hush.

I would speculate that if the people holding the cards new that they were holding that kind of financial increase, there would be ALOT of impatient folks wanting their money now, ie civil uprising....imo

There is saying that the Government gave out Cards that only contained 250 dinar a month, which means 3.xx or = 800 USD in the nearest future. My inpression is that no Gov would give out 250 dinar a month to its citizens and expact them to survive on that if they are not expecting RV that are meaningful.

I don't have a link but I remember an article about the 250 dinars and it was just to test it out. Maybe someone can provide the link to that article.
