16/02/2012 14:56 BAGHDAD, Feb. 15 (AKnews) - The Minister of Electricity will be questioned over his preparations for the provision of electricity during the summer.

A hundred members of the Council of Representatives signed a petition, organized by the Energy Committee, to host Yasin Muhammad al-Mawatiin in parliament.

Uday Awad, a member of the committee, said: "The minister was supposed to cooperate in finding a solution for the electricity problem.

"We find that the current minister is not collaborating and tried to delay the opening of a lot of files."

Iraq frequently experiences shortages in electricity since the beginning of 1990 due to the deteriorating conditions of its many old stations, as well as targeted attacks on facilities over the last five years.

At its peak, the combined length of power cuts increased to around 20 hours per day.
