isx@warka-bank-iq.com is asking for my copy of my passport. Anyone else too? I just want to make sure as this isn't a breach of security on their part knowing that their IT infrastructure isnt very secure.

I submitted a copy a long time ago, along with some of documents to prove who I am. I believe it is so that shares can be issued in your name and not held in proxy by the bank.

I am only guessing here, but I think it could be related to the fact the CBI has implemented new policies with the banks in that the banks need to know who their clients are. This stemmed from the recent fx currency demand by Syrian and Iranian customers via the Iraqi banks. Like I said just a guess.

I gave them copies four years ago, this is nothing new having to produce ID for a bank account, same as the USA.

But is is definitively a security risk but a necessity. I guess you'll know why you wind up on the no fly list.

thanks everyone... ok so isx@ replied back with:

    Dear Sir,

Please note that we need your document to register you in the ISX to transfer your shares from proxy company into your good name.

In accordance with the updated regulations set by the Iraqi Stock Exchange they require the originals to be submitted declining any scanned copy..

Please send the documents to our mailing address:

Warka Bank for Investment and Finance - Main Branch – Baghdad Iraq
    International Foreign Relations Department
Watheq Square – Salman Faiq St. – Hay Alwihda – Sec. 902 – 14th St.

Please note that once the ISX documents have been received and verified by our bank it will be submitted to the Iraqi Stock Exchange to process and register your information and documentation within their electronic system where once registration is completed an investment trading number will be issued which our ISX department will confirm by email noting that it takes 2-3 weeks for the Iraqi Stock Exchange to issue an investment trading number.

    Best regards,

    ISX Department

They are asking for "originals" ? If they are declining any scanned copy, what do they want then? Obviously I wouldnt be sending in my orginal passport.

They probably mean they require the passport to be notarized as usual with the hard-copy sent to them

I had to notarized mine when I first applied for the ISX in 2007 with my signatures.
