Keep in mind, some countries are going to do nothing until after elections. Funny, I thought Kuwait was one of them. Time will tell.

[QUOTE=MEALTICKET]What role might Saddam's trial play in the NID return to international currency exchange? :QUOTE]

I think if he is convicted of the crimes he will be put to death ..
Life in prison would be just ..so he can see Iraq prosper with out him also would be a just punishment ..

But if he is kept in jail.... could there be a jail break when we give the authority to the Iraqi's to hold Saddam in Prison ????

    Default Debt Reduction

    http://www.jubileeiraq.org/blog/

I have found this to have realtime info on the negotiations that are transpiring. Of interest is the govt of Iraq has come back on the Paris Club 80% offer with a counter offer. The Iraqi stance sez that the debt is odious (ie money went to Saddam not the people of Iraq) and they need to collect from him. They are asking the debtor nations to prove where the money was spent.

    I link. You decide.

(Note: I think this is much better then the OJ trial when it comes to learning about law)

Well another 9 billion is a good number to throw off the Debt pile .....

Does this bring the total debt down to 50 billion still outstanding ????

Every little bit helps Iraq gain a firmer step foward for regrowth and prosperity

Default Iraq clears arrears to World Bank

    http://www.menafn.com/qn_news_story_s.asp?StoryId=74718

Iraq clears arrears to World Bank

    MENAFN Press - 28/12/2004

The Republic of Iraq has cleared all overdue service payments to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) as of December 16th, 2004. Consequently, the country's eligibility for new operations has been reinstated.

The Republic of Iraq's arrears to IBRD amounted to around $110 million, of
which approximately $53 million was overdue principal payments. Clearance of these arrears will raise IBRD's FY05 net income by around $74 million.

This arrears clearance is another key step in the overall process of the
Republic of Iraq's program of economic recovery and reform, which is being
strongly supported by the World Bank and other external partners.

i think that if they don't come thru with debt relief old buddy GWB hanging onto 120 billion in reconstruction funds can slap that money on the table and say "here's the debt relief money, NOW start kissing Iraq's azz".......my 2 cents ;)
