Damnit!!!! I hate how they allways line multiple things up like this and make us nuts!!!! Maybe they just cant do anything unless they have a full schedule? Seems they never show up for work if there is only one or two items on the docket.:lmao: :lmao:

    Happy New Year Everyone!

I can see it being possible for 2 or 3 days for technical reasons but longer than that is usually something more contrived.

As a note: only a Government usually has the ability to impose a large scale news blackout by use of legislation.

Now if they could just stop torturing, killing and blowing each other up for the 9 day holy season.

can anyone confirm that they did this in the previous years? If so was it for this long of a time?

And what benefits can come from blacking out the news media? Does this really help a revalue and how?

Default stop a mass sell off

I think this is a media blackout because they are going to reval the dinar and they want as little attention as possible. They don't want everyone cashing in at once and have teh value of the dinar crash.

I am not one to talk the technical talk in the terms of economics, other threads do it justice.

I guess the big questions are, is it going to reval soon (I hope with all these things happening at once) and how many of us are going to cash in. I don't think anything like this has happened before, so all of us are just throwing out possible outcomes.

I understand that when a company (IPO's) are ready to go public, they set a price a couple of weeks before going public, from the time the price is set, there is what's called a "quiet period" with an expiration date. Known as a "quiet period expiration".

Perhaps fundementally this could be a "quiet period", prior to going on the forex, Just thinking out loud here!!!!

im sure we can reason this to death and come with a finalized idea of what they are doing.. lets start spitting out ideas and see which ones seem to be best course of action if it is a revalue.

Default Please provide source of "Warnings Not to Cash In Their Grants Until After EID

Can you help provide the source of your statement:

"...warnings to people not to take/spend their grants
before the end of the EID Holiday"...?

    Thanks

A lot of Spanish organisations (administrative, construction, etc., etc.) shut down for virtually the whole of August as a holiday but they DON'T stop media...

With Saddam's execution the GoI have to do something now to bolster the spirits of the Iraqi people who are on a high after his death. If the GoI don't follow up and improve the lives of their people with something pleasant then Saddam's death is going to seem like an anti-climax and return to the same drudgery. This GoI is up for re-election next year and they are going have to do something pretty damn soon if they want to gain some popularity because Saddam's execution has boosted Maliki's standing and he needs to follow up or risk losing the impression of someone capable of making difficult decisions and ultimately lose his job and the perks that go with it.

Something big is going to happen next weekend, how big, what, details, I can't say but you can't deny the evidence here and elsewhere even if some is misleading there are plenty of sources that point towards next week as a zenith....

Can you help me with my homework? I'm stuck.

I would love to, and my statements are mostly based on articles linked from this website, but I do have a family and my wife is getting annoyed at me being on here all the time...

I would swear in court that I saw an article regarding the signing of the ICI around the 7th/8th (to those that asked here) only about 3 weeks ago and also in regards to the warnings to not spend the grant only a week or so ago. I just don't have the time to figure out how to trawl through this entire forum to find every link. That's not to say the info in these articles are not simply another attempt at misleading by the GoI (and, boy, they are good at it)!!

I figure there are a few out there like Adster, etc. who reads the same stuff can probably help me out here or back me up to say I'm not talking utter crap.

Also, I must have missed it but is there solid proof that the ICI signing will be on the 7th?
And you had a go at me for not being able to produce a link for the exact date of the ICI signing but I know I read it in a linked article only 2 or 3 weeks ago. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...

Nobody directed anything at you for an exact date and at least I can admit when I am wrong or unable to acheive something instead of dancing around the question. I asked if there was proof of it being done on the 7th which there is not, only a formal signing has occurred back in November.

    This one's for you: http://www.investorsiraq.com/iraqi-d...teresting.html

Doesn't give an exact date (yes, you are right) but I did see an article through IIF specifying next weekend as a date....

I am STILL looking on the Net...

    Try this one:

Mr. Annan notes that "considerable preparatory work" has already been done to create an effective framework for the Compact in which the Government can develop its economic programme according to clearly defined priorities, benchmarks and commitments. And yesterday an international agreement was adopted to move the process further along.

Representatives of 13 Governments, the League of Arab States, the World Bank and other regional and international organizations met in the United Arab Emirates to welcome the Iraqi Government's commitment to "making urgent progress" on national reconciliation, political inclusion and other measures.

The Abu Dhabi Declaration also pledged to work closely with the authorities in further developing the Compact with the UN and the World Bank, and "recognized the need to expeditiously complete the development" through a "broad consultative process at the national, regional and international levels." The meeting also pledged to work towards adoption of the Compact by the end of this year.
