    Default A primer for newbies?

'kay, I'm a complete and unadulterated newbie at this particular game. Last week I splurged into NID ownership based on some advice from an Iraqi friend.

Been lurking on the edge of the forum ... and trying to follow the extremely educated (to me) posts here, but it all comes down to a couple of simple questions for me ...

(and if this ain't the time or place to ask, then please point me in the right direction?)

    1. Is it better to hold the dinars in my hot little hand, or ...

    2. Is it more advisable to open an investor account with an Iraqi bank (Warka?)

Please be kind to us virgins!

Tough question Puffbuster! I guess it depends on your particular inclination...and, on how much trust you have in your fellow man!
    Personally, I only hold cash...obviously I'm a distrusting SOB.
By the way, by the tone of your post, it sounds like you are a bit gun shy!
Don't be afraid to ask questions... just jump right into the fray! Not everybody is out to get you!
    welcome to the forum!

Many if not most of the "oldbies" have either gone the even spread (ISX, Warka, and paper under the mattress), or have completely gone the Warka route (CD's, ISX, account). I like the CD's under slow-grow because of the 17% interest combined with whatever may happen to exchange rate during the year. Some maintain that they dont trust having their money in an Iraqi bank at all and have kept all their money at home. I like the even spread, but with maintained slow-grow (now gone to creep-grow), I'll probably continue to buy into ISX just to see some sort of movement (even if its downward movement) on my investment. Hoping for the overnight RV though so will always keep some smaller denoms at home.

Hi puff, nothing like starting out kicking a hornets nest!!
Its going to come down to how involved you want to be in this, if you are way involved you will have warka accounts, probably buy stocks in the isx, have bank cd's etc.
I just have cash in hand, that way whenever I get good and sick of this I can sell all my marbles and go home. What ever you decide if this hits we are all going to make out great.Welcome aboard!

I have cash in hand i would like to go the warka account, but on a limited budget i bought a little here and there and cant play with the big boys.
But if it takes 10 more years i will still be here waiting for the 1 to 1 so i can retire.

Sorry, it took me so long to get back to you!!! LOL, I hold only cash...well, I don't actually hold it..it's in my safety deposit box. The reason being is, that I don't trust banks without some sort of insurance policy. i.e. FDIC However, I will shortly be bashed and trashed....so you may want to go with the Warka peoples' opinions.

In the mean time....WELCOME...to dinarland. Please note that there are several other forums that discuss this investment as well. Please don't be a stranger, and post freely!! Come visit me and the other DG's (Dinar Gals) in the crazy threads!! I think that you made a wise decision in investing, but please be prepared for a wild ride!!

    Welcome!!!

I think you need to ask yourself three questions !!!

    1. Have I recently spotted a Chrysler LeBaron ? (stole that one from Peg)

    2. I have read every archived hugh color font highlighted article ever posted, why am I not already wealthy from holding physical dinar ??

    3. Why wasn't I invited to the big RV party in Florida last year ???

What ever you decide to do don't buy if you can not afford to lose it. I think this is a good investment but its also a big gamble. And don't buy on rumors as they have never came true and probably never will.

Seriously though i think you should go cash in hand. There are no known setbacks (at the moment) and you have more control to change instead o keeping your money in a place where you dont live and only know via electronically.

Wait till you meet the pie-lady in Yelapa. Best dam key lime in the world, brings it out on her head right to your beachside lounger. Extras in the bano in the back of the cantina will cost you a few hundred pesos though.

Y'all are confusing me!!!! If you read many of my posts here and on other forums.... I don't actually cook/make/bake/boil pies! I buy them!!! Why spend all of that time looking for your kitchen, when you have people that cook them for you?? The kitchen is full of gadgets and electricity, which in my opinion is a man's place!!!!! I will spend MY time in Bloomingdale's!!!

    Cool

I am not really into pie but instead am craving some crawfish and dirty rice this morning.

If you were to get say 10K in cash and 10K into the ISX I think you would be a very happy gal in a few years. I am all cash at the moment and have been sliding over towards the ISX for a while now but I can't seem to part with my cash. So I am about ready to make some wire transfers.

Welcome and don't let anyone bother you. We are a pretty harmless group. Sit down have some bugs and hang out a while. I am sure someone has a cold beer for ya.

    Cash in hand vrs. ISX

    Hmmm....

In the world of dinar speculation, that is equal to asking people about abortion.

IMO this entire thing is almost entirely blanketed by something most other investments aren't...politics. Even worse is the Middle Easts views on religion. We see every day in the news what those can do.

Anyways, IMO cash is king period. Cash is the safest bet. However, ISX has some drawbacks but those seem to be getting patched slowly. I think people can now get stocks in their own names without a proxy?? On the up side to ISX though, I think that in the long run that will be where the big bucks are. The big question is whether or not those stocks are legit, right now, when people can get them at bottom dollar. If they are golden then stock holders will do better than cash holders, considering a potential life time of gains. If some thing happens to the stocks, and many things could, they may become worthless or as good as. The other thing to note is the rumor that there may be some funneling of money from Warka to the insurgants. I will leave it at that and emphasize that as far as I know its only a rumor and there seems to be evidence suggesting its not true. IMO its good to know that it is out there though and hopefully it isn't true.
