Former Marine Requests Employment Information

First of all, I hope this post meets the guidelines for this forum. There is precious little accurate information out there about working in Iraq. That is why I am posting here. I just retired from the Marine Corps with 20 years of honorable service. I was enlisted with the most of my training in the infantry and, toward the end, human resources (retention specialist).


I am requesting that any KBR employee contact me via this post or private message because I have a few questions. I already know that it is a one-year hardship tour under austere living conditions. That I am prepared for, as I have spent several years at sea, combat tour (In Iraq), and field operations. I also know the pay is very good, that is why I am interested. I was looking an entry-level job, such as logistics/supply.


I have questions on the following: Medical, life insurance, time off, who pays for food/lodging and what the KBR recruiter told you/did not tell you.

All of the information that you are inquiring about can be obtained at Halliburton.com Then go to careers then kbr then job opprutinites. After you create a profile on there site you can apply for any opening they have and all of your questions will be anwsered.

Please remember that KBR is not the only, or best opportunity in Iraq. Check with www.militaryhire.com. There is also Parsons, Washington Group Int'l, ITT, DynaCorp, General Dynamics, Reid Inc. (maybe Reed Int'l). So many other companies that many, MANY KBR employees leave to join for better money, better accommodations, and overall respect as a human beings. I should know. I'm former KBR, who relly liked KBR until I went to Iraq with them. KBR in Iraq is a totally different mentality than the US side. Good luck.

I completed 14 months in Iraq with KBR and sincerely advise you to go with another company. KBR is very much a cattle call operation in LOGCAP III. They herd you over there with little accurate information and when you ask questions you are in many instances regarded as a bother or even trouble maker. This is not all personal experiences from my own view but what I have witnessed with other fellow employees. I could spend all day with finite details of what goes on with their treatment of their employees but unless you are destined for punishment check out the many many other contractors. Think about it there is a reason KBR has such a high turn over. Their retention rate is extremelly low and 9 out of 10 will tell you it's not because they fear for their life.

Run from KBR as fast as you can!

You would be wise to seek employment with another company. KBR right now is downsizing its operations, at least on Anaconda, at the moment. From one former Marine to another........and Semper Fi!

L3, ITT, those 2 are hiring I believe. There are alot of companies over here besides KBR and they all pay better. Loyalty is a one way street with KBR. They want it from you but you will not be shown any.

You can also go to Dangerzonejobs.com their is a wealth of information about all the contractors that hire world wide their is a one time fee of $49.00 I feel it is worth the price. The site doe's a good job updateing the current jobs for the many contract jobs that are out their. Good Luck from Kuwait

Since you are a Marine. The harsh living conditions propably will not bother you. I work in Kuwait and I live on the Beach in a villa. No Tents here. The pay is not as high as in Iraq I was promised 72K. It as starting point to latter move up North if you want. If you can go to the "open House" in Houston.

What a relief to see other KBR bashers on this forum. I thought I was the only one. I NEVER recommend someone going with KBR. Seeing those retchid KBR lanyards being forced around every employees kneck makes me cringe, yet sooooo happy to be free from them. They have some of the most miserable employees I have ever seen. Yes, turnover has always been high. Excellent craftsmen, but a truly unorganized and micromanagerial company that is super wasteful in the material sense, as well as with the skill base. The truly skilled and experienced employees do not move up unless they know someone. Nepatism is rampant. I used to be with KBR. Now, I own my own company in the same camp I helped build from the ground up from 2003 to early 2005. My future has never been so wonderful and my increased freedom from KBR is a blessing. Yes, there are many other companies out here. Like someone else said, dangerzonejobs.com is a good site, as is militaryhire.com. I do also recommend to stear clear of Kuwaiti based companies. Their employment laws are different, and they really are not so impressed with the thought of having US employees. They are just outright rude people who don't have to work too much -- and don't. Saudi companies are good. Try GSCS or DLSS. There's also companies in Qatar and Doha with subcamps in Iraq. Dynacor, Corpse of Engineers, and numerous security companies are here too. Try Parsons, and Washington Group too.
