Default Iraq or bust / anywhere that will pay

This is my first time posting so I hope this is the right place for my questions. I started about a year ago trying to get on with KBR. I go to every recruiting event here in San Diego with no results. About four months ago I got in contact with someone working in Iraq for a smaller IT company but was told about other places hiring, such as ITT industries, tamsco etc. ITT industries had me fill out an application but are not hiring until march ( so they tell me ) Long story short is there a way to get over there and make some money ASAP.
I have 4 years in the Air Force ( c-130h-3 crew chief / Computer networking help desk experience. ) Currently employed with Fed Ex as a ramp agent here in San Diego in the morning then work at a Software Company 9-5. I have been to the desert while in the military many times and defiantly not afraid of hard work. If anyone has pointers or guidance It would be greatly appreciated and again if this in wrong place I apologize

I have been on the website for awhile now. Everytime i go to one of their recruiting events they give me instructions on a way to upload information if you dont have an account and if you do. Theres another one on tuesday so i think im going to tell the recrutier i really need this, bad. I always tell them that i can leave immeditatly, but i guess they get that all the time. I could have a bag packed and on a plane tonight.

They won't put you on a plane until you pass the background check. I think it's odd that KBR won't hire you. They'll hire anybody! Look at me!

Your telling me ! I got my current job the same day i applied. Makes me think i had something in my teeth when i was talking. The person i know that just came back had half the work experience and was never in the military, never left the US until leaving for Iraq !
How long does it take for KBR/ITT to get you over there, from talking with the recruiter then landing in the desert.
The person i know took about 4 months but it was a smaller company.

It took me about 2 1/2 months but most of that was getting the timing right on my end. Once I got to houston for in-processing I was in Iraq about 17-18 days later.

here is a tip that worked for a few folks . Search their web site find a recent job posting if you can in a field you are interested in working .The more fields you are intrested in the better your chance.

each job as a recruiter name listed There is also a phone number listed for that person .I suggested they call and talk to the recruiter .I would not leave a message unless you have to .I will be honest they are very hard to catch but at each of these site the each recruiter is working a field so if you are trying to get into the the IT field chances are that recruiter is not at that job fair.

There are many fields to explore Labour foremen very general field
Warehouse are two fields ,Maybe admin assist , are a few others area you may consider if you are just looking for a job and to get over here and make some money .

Even though I'm from Cali it seems like the only people they hire are from Texas and Louisiana. I'd say at least 85% KBR personnel on logcap3 are from those two states. You might need to have an address there to get a phone call.

What job do you want? PM me and I'll give you my e-mail. Then send me your resume and i'll pass it along from out here in Iraq.

I worked 8 years for Fed Ex. Two years out there where you are in SD. Does Summer still work there? How about Jim Stevens?

I hope thats not the case, everythime i go to one of the recruiting events i joke about how i was going to drive to houston and talk to someone. Then they say theres no need for that, everyone has the same chance. I guess im not in the right places at the right time. Thanks for the help firedawg2000 i will take you up on that offer and check your inbox.
As for applying for diffrent jobs, i have been trying that for awhile KBR/ITT. Procurement, secruity and then the regular IT postions that i always apply
for. This is definitely my last ditch effort and i thank everyone for the help

Default passport

I went to Houston with my passport and also previously held a security clearance...didn't help one bit. I live in Florida, but there are lots of people here from Texas and Louisiana since a lot of the US oil industry is out of work. I don't think being prior military has much to do with it as I have never been in the military. I do have years of experience as a military contractor though. One of the standing jokes here is that you can't get one of the really good/high paying jobs here unless you are 1. From Texas or Louisiana 2. Related to or friends with someone high up in KBR 3. Totally unqualified for the position.

Well the recruiter for KBR said I was not qualified for a job---any of the jobs---don’t know why since the only thing holding me back from a ccna, ccsp is money. I was told that ITT is on a hiring freeze so hopefully that will end, also applied with CSA. Just don’t know why they hire the people that leave early but people that have been in that environment and know what they are getting into get passed up. Keeping fingers crossed <----- needs cash.

My concern also is being out in california as i dont see too many companies doing job fairs out here. Also, im trying to figure out how to contact a recruiter, because without being able to attend job fairs for these companies that hold them in, sometimes 3 states over, ive got quite a task ahead of me.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
