Some US troops question Woodruff coverage
By PAMELA HESS UPI Pentagon Correspondent WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- The American media stood up and took notice when an improvised explosive device grievously injured an ABC News crew Sunday. In Iraq, and throughout the military, there is sympathy and concern for anchor Bob Woodruff and cameraman Doug Vogt, but there is also this question: "Why do you think this is such a huge story?" wrote an officer stationed in Baqubah, Iraq, Monday via e-mail. "It's a bit stunning to us over here how absolutely dominant the story is on every network and front page. I mean, you'd think we lost the entire 1st Marine Division or something. " There's a lot of grumbling from guys at all ranks about it. That's a really impolite and impolitic thing to say ... but it's what you would hear over here." "The point that is currently being made (is that) that press folks are more important than mere military folks," a senior military officer told UPI Tuesday. "It's just a bit frustrating to see something so dramatized that happens every day to some 20-year-old American -- or worse to 10, 30-year-old Iraqi soldiers or cops alongside us. Some of the stories don't even mention the Iraqi casualties in this attack, as if they're meaningless," wrote the officer in Baqubah. http://www.upi.com/SecurityTerrorism...1-041958-8164r |

I'm not going to say its right or wrong the media coverage on Woodruffs and Voygts injuries. Please take into account that if it were'nt for guys like him most people in America wouldn't know what is going on in other parts of the world. He gets the lime light because he is in the lime light.. Journalists that cover Iraq, and really dangerous area's of the world bring stories to millions of homes that other wise wouldn't be told.

Journalists of course share these stories, yet more often than not they carry the journalist's opinion, rather than the TRUTH of specifically what happened and who was involved.

Don't mean to sound rough in responding to what you said, don't take it personally.

shoots they'd (reporters) will rather give in and call a terrorist an insurgent, before calling a US Soldier a "hero" that protects their freedom to be in the LIMELIGHT. ************************************************** *** Quote:
everyday, and they are not getting the same LIMELIGHT in return from reporters other than ......Being accused of bad things than for the good things they do.. ************************************************** ** Quote:
http://www.mnf-iraq.com/Publications...tar/060203.pdf http://www.mnf-iraq.com/Publications/TWII/30Jan06.pdf Bottomeline.....Majority (note Majority) of reporters that go into areas like this are not there to report the good that our troops/America are doing, they are seeking a NEWS STORY (90% chance it's bad news as good news don't sell to hollywood or make Re-Runs throughout history)...... .THEREFORE THEY GO---TO MAKE A NAME FOR THEMSELVES , NOT FOR THE EVERYDAY AMERICAN TO GET THE NEWS. Those days are lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng gone. there is only one guy I've seen reporting the news about what the troops do and go through HONESTLY, as he puts them on Camera -- Ollie north.

I ask this question who died the same week as princess Dianna? Most people don't know the answer I truly wish they did or could tell me but most can't. Mother Teresa a woman who devoted her whole entire life helping and serving others was over shadowed by Princess Di. Their are millions of people who give daily to their fellow man and go unreconized and unappreciated. Our troops they are serving and making personal sacrifies everyday, I am aware of that, and they should be in the limelight, but they and most who serve will never be seen in the same light as a reporter, or a Jessica Simpson, or Britney Spears. Gota go
